Waterside Bowls Club - Presentation Evening - 11th November 2023

Another great evening at Lexby Hall for Waterside Bowling Club’s Presentation Evening. The room was beautifully decorated which made it ideal for the club’s purposes. The food was delicious, and the bar was open. The numerous trophies were on display and there was a jovial air in the room in anticipation of the presentations being made.

Unfortunately, Jamie Hughes (WBC Competitions Secretary) was unable to attend so he prepared the following text to sum up the club’s season.

“It's been some year for WBC, mainly with taking over the maintenance of our 2 greens, which have played exceptionally well, so massive thanks must go to Chris Ballard and the grounds team for their dedication to the cause. On the playing side, huge congratulations to the Men's 'B' Team for winning back-to-back double promotions (S&D & N/F) – let’s hope circumstances don't force them to have to withdraw a team!

The 'A' Team finished mid table in both N/F & S&D, whereas the Ladies 'A' Team romped away with N/F 1 and missed out on top spot in S&D 1 by 2pts, finishing 3rd. Yet again WBC were very well represented externally, reaching County Area Finals, County Last 8's, and winning numerous S&D and N/F Men's, Ladies & Mixed Competitions. This all bodes well for the future. An almost full programme of internal and day comps were run this year, culminating in 18 finals on finals w/e. Sadly, for the 1st time in my memory, the weather beat us and Sunday afternoon was a complete washout with the green deep under water!! But the remaining games were completed soon after and congratulations go to the winners, especially our 2 new singles champions, Anita Knight and Martin Smith. Thank you to all competitors for completing their games predominantly on time and thanks, once again, to Carol Hathaway and her band of merry caterers in supporting the many events we offer throughout the seasons.”

As well as congratulating the Winners and Runners up at the Presentation Evening, we must thank everyone who entered club competitions as, without their entries, there are no winners or losers for that matter. It’s reassuring that the number of entries seems to grow each year along with a variation in winners.

President Brian’s charities this year have been for the club’s greens equipment and £1381.50 was raised.
