Waterside Bowls Club - Presentation Evening - 9th November 2024
Another great evening at Lexby Hall for Waterside Bowling Club’s
Presentation Evening. The room was beautifully decorated which made it ideal
for the club’s purposes. The food was delicious, and the bar was open. The numerous
trophies were on display and there was a jovial air in the room in anticipation
of the presentations being made.
Jamie Hughes (WBC Competitions Secretary) has prepared the following text to sum up the club’s season.
"It has been an exceptional year for WBC, with success for our ladies in winning the N/F A League, the S&D Club Championship Cup and winning numerous N/F and S&D competitions. The men were S&D Div2 champions - going the whole season unbeaten, and also won numerous N/F competitions and getting to the latter stages in S&D and County competitions. Our mixed team were also narrow runners up in the Hampshire Mixed Top Club. An amazing achievement considering the opposition we faced.
Finals Weekend started in glorious sunshine but the impending doom of Sunday's forecast never far from everyone's minds. Thankfully, despite some heavy showers early doors there was no Sunday washout like last year and all games were completed as per the schedule.
Notable matches being Jan Leppard & Martin Smith pipping Sue Capp & Ian Winterburn in the Mixed Pairs, Duncan Beck winning the Green Medal against John Wills and Jamie Hughes squeaking past Duncan Beck in the Pete Cox 100 Up.
Performance of the weekend has to go to 16yr old Joshua Hughes, winning both the Chas & George Singles and the Men's Pairs, with partner Martin Smith.
Congratulations to Janet Ballard for being unbeaten all weekend, including the Ladies Club Championship and to Jamie Hughes for the same feat, winning the Men's Club Championship.
A big thanks to all those involved in producing 2 quality surfaces to bowl on, those helping in the kitchen throughout the year providing food & drinks, the bar staff and to anyone else who has helped make this year so successful.
Jamie Hughes (WBC Comps Sec)"
As well as congratulating the Winners and Runners up at the Presentation Evening, we must thank everyone who entered club competitions as, without their entries, there are no winners or losers for that matter. It’s reassuring that the number of entries seems to grow each year along with a variation in winners.
President Jackie’s charity this year has been for the Hampshire and Isle Of Wight Air Ambulance and £705.50 was raised.
