PLAY BOWLS – The Sport for All!
Make new friends; learn new skills at Waterside Bowling Club.
Bowls truly is the ‘sport for all’. It can be played by all ages, abilities and sexes – making it the perfect sport for all members of your family to enjoy together.
Like all sport, the object of bowls is essentially simple, but to be able to play consistently well demands determination, concentration and practice.
It has been medically proven that bowls improves your general health and helps to strengthen the immune system by giving your muscle and joints good exercise. Due to the extensive muscles you use during the approach, bowls is a good full-body motion, stretching the muscles you use and conditioning others.
During an average game you will:
• Bend more than 40 times
• Walk approximately 1,260 metres
• Swing your arm more than 40 times to deliver a bowl weighing more than three pounds.
It is also the ideal sport for meeting new people, socialising and meeting new challenges which boosts psychological and emotional health.
For all those who enjoy a higher level of competitive sport, there is an abundance of District and County leagues and competitions you can play, a number of which lead to National finals. There are not too many games where you can become a County, or even National champion in your latter years. Over the last two years, three Waterside bowlers have been awarded their County badge, two of which qualified for the National finals last year. We also currently have the Ladies County Champion of Champions along with a number of Southampton & District BA and New Forest BA singles, pairs and triples champions.
But above all bowling is GREAT FUN.
